What Do I Do After An Auto Accident?

Stay safe, pull to the side of the road and protect yourself from any traffic. Call police and report accident location. Assess injuries and call for ambulance if anyone needs hospital care or fire fighter assistance to remove from vehicle. Assuming no injuries, exchange auto insurance information. If your vehicle is cannot be driven, call for road side assistance, friend or relative. If police do not come to scene, be sure to make a police report by the next day and complete the Illinois Motorist Report of Accident. If you don't appreciate any injuries until later, get medical attention. If the accident is NOT your fault, you are not obliged to report accident to your insurance, but should do so if either your fault, or other driver's insurance balks at collision repair, rental or related property issues. If injured, call a well qualified personal injury attorney (Call THE MARGOLIS FIRM PC). DO NOT give a recorded statement to a claims adjustor for the other driver's insurance company.
